Brittini Mckenzie
Thomson Family Award
St. George’s University Undergraduate Major/Field of Study: Veterinary Medicine Award Value: $15,000.00Brittni’s deep love for animals has set her on an ambitious course to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree by 2024 so that she can return back to The Bahamas and provide expert medical support via a network of affordable animal clinics across the Bahamian archipelago. This summer, Brittni has been working at a veterinary clinic in Canada as a Veterinary Assistant to gain hands-on experience as she prepares to finish her final year of pre-vet studies. Having recently suffered the loss of her father, who greatly contributed to funding her education, Brittni says the scholarship from Lyford Cay Foundations has lifted a significant burden from her family.
Brittini is currently enrolled at St George’s University and is completing her first semester online, in Nassau.
In Brittini’s Own Words:
“I am a first-generation student in my household as neither of my parents went to college or university, so being successful is extremely important to me,” says Brittni. “Receiving significant support from Lyford Cay Foundations means I can focus less on the financial burden of vet school and more on my grades and keeping my GPA up.”
