The Thomson Leadership and Innovation Awards, administered by Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd (CUC) are Scholarship Awards designed to recruit and support Caymanian Students who are driven to improve the Cayman Islands.
Through the Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation the awards were created to carry out the wishes of the late Peter Nesbitt Thomson whose mission was to give back to the Cayman Islands community. Mr. Thomson was a long serving CUC director of 25 years and shareholder. His son Peter A. Thomson, a Foundation Director, is now one of the Company's longest serving directors and was CUC's President and CEO from 1986 until 2005.
Scholarship grants of up to $30,000 annually will be awarded to four eligible and deserving students at any given time, for a period of up to four years of funding each, depending on the length of the degree, diploma, or certificate program, and provided academic requirements are maintained as outlined by the Foundation.
The Foundation, with the assistance of CUC, will award these annual grants through a competitive application and review process to those who showcase exemplary community involvement, are innovators, who show creativity, dedication and a vision to succeed in an emerging field that is underrepresented or not represented in the Cayman Islands.
